FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Business Owner Policy (BOP) and do I need one?
A BOP bundles general liability and property coverage into a single policy at a lower combined cost than buying them separately. It's designed for small to mid-sized businesses with predictable risk profiles — retail shops, professional offices, restaurants, contractors. If you have a business location and any inventory or equipment, a BOP is usually a strong starting point.
Does New York require workers' compensation insurance?
Yes. New York requires workers' compensation for almost every employer with one or more employees, including part-time. Penalties for non-compliance are significant. We can help you get a policy in place quickly, whether you're just hiring your first employee or restructuring an existing one.
Do I need commercial auto insurance if I use my personal car for work?
If your work involves more than commuting — deliveries, client visits, hauling tools, transporting people — your personal auto policy probably won't cover an at-work claim. Commercial auto is built for that exposure, and trying to file a work-related claim under a personal policy can result in denial.
What if my business is home-based?
Home-based businesses often fall in a gap. Your homeowners policy typically excludes business activity beyond a small amount, so you may need a home business endorsement, a BOP, or a separate commercial policy depending on your exposure. We'll walk through what you actually do and recommend the right structure.
How fast can I get a Certificate of Insurance (COI)?
If you're already a client, usually same-day. We know contractors and vendors often need a COI on short notice for a job, a landlord, or a contract. Call 631-941-6538 and we'll get it issued.
